The magic of the blue sky is over. Smog is thick and grey over the city. Nonetheless we go to High School No. 80 where the multimedia test takes place. After the test the students are somewhat depressed: the questions were hard to understand (concerning content and language) and they had to guess a lot.
After lunch the faces are more content again – an trafternoon awaits us. We go downtown directly from the school to visit a Hutong (traditional one stored settlement). The metropolitan is thrilling: so many people. It is very hot in the small pathways of the quarter and there is so much to see on every corner.
After some first impressions we enjoy a cold drink on one of the improvised terraces. Then we walk on, passing small shops and low huts. Chicken legs, duck heads and many other things are offered in the streets and some loose their appetite.
In the evening the cultural session takes place. Every team has two minutes to present its countrie’s culture. There is dancing, singing, acting and lots of things are being given away. Some presentations are funny, some are interesting, some are hard to understand acoustically.
The Swiss team’s turn is after three hours and the audience is not very focussed any more. They play a funny short sketch about a hiker with a Swiss army knife (including Matterhorn and cow in the background).
